Cake Decorating Made Easy by Tyler Branson

Anyone can make adorable looking cakes through cake decorating. The cake is one of the best points in any occasion aside from the person celebrating that special event. They are far more than just a pastry or a dessert. It makes every occasion special so it needs to be unique and astounding.
Cake decorating requires equipment and skills like fondant-making, creating stencil cutouts for customized cakes and different kinds of frosting and icings.
Cake icing
One of the most important elements in cake designing is the icing. Creating a beautifully iced cake is an art. To ensure a good result focus carefully on what you are doing. In order to achieve creamy and soft cake icing, you must allow the cake base to cool down. If you put the icing on when the cake is still warm, it will result to tiny bubbles, the color may change and it will run everywhere. For example, if you are icing a wedding cake it will absorb the cake color and turn a pale brown.
A smooth blade or spatula are the best utensils for spreading the icing on the cake.
A tip to remember: spread the icing evenly while gently rotating the cake in one direction. A deep bowl or mugh of hot water is good to keep close. You can dip your spreading implement in the water to stop it sticking.
Make fondants
Another cake decorating idea is to use fondant icing. What is fondant? This is solid icing that you can roll into sheets and lay over the cake. Fondant has the versatility to enable you to create figurines in all shapes and colors.
Fondants are usually created out of sugar, chocolate and milk. Fondants made entirely from chocolate are even possible.
Cake tiers
Another way to design your cake is to have it tiered. Undeniably, cakes in layers are impressive with a classic look. You will need two or three different sized cake boards so that you can layer them to create a tiered cake. You can stack them directly on top of each other or use special columns to give the cake even more height.
Edible accessories
Try visiting the local baking shop near you and head to their display cabinets where you will see edible accessories such as candies that look like pearls, stringed candies, sprinkles, chocolate chips, chocolate bits, and even colored candies. These things are great for designing your cake as well as your mini cakes or cupcakes.
Your own sense of beauty is the main element in your exquisite cake decorating ideas. If your cake is looking a little insipid you can liven it up with brightly colored decorations and ribbons. Alternately, pale or plain decorations help to tone down a cake that may be too bright for the occasion. Learn how to balance the elements of your cake.
